A Guide to Selecting the Right Bar Refrigeration
Commercial refrigeration is important to keep your bar running and keep your customers satisfied. White wine, beer and most cocktails are best when served cold. For you to decide what type of Bar Refrigeration is needed for your bar, first determine what types of beverages you want to serve your customers. But before buying any these equipment, check where the location of the compressor is. Then look at your bar layout, make sure that the compressor will not be covered, as it will need some space to breathe.
For bar that serves beer, wine and other beverages, be sure to have the right refrigeration equipment for good service. You may need the equipment below, or just one or two, depending on your bar operation. Determine whether or not you want your beverage options on tap, in bottles, or a combination of both.
Glass Back Bar Coolers
If you want your beverage selection to be on display, choose a glass door back bar cooler. These equipment allows you to both display and store your wine and beer choices. The only disadvantage with this unit is that it must be neat and organized all the time. Its glass must also be cleaned regularly so that the unit is presentable to your customers.
Once you decide that a glass back door cooler is right for you, be sure to buy a unit with thermal doors, or units that have double layer glass to ensure that the cold air stays inside. Double Layer glass doors are durable and resist breaking when it bumps into something during rush time.
Under counter Refrigerator
If you want to use your back bar for beers as well as cocktail mixers, you may want to consider an under counter refrigerator. If your bar serves a well-known domestic beer, then a glass door cooler is not really necessary. These refrigeration equipment can be disorganized inside, and can also have other bottled items stored alongside your beers and wines. These equipment are better at keeping the cold air inside than a glass door model of the same capacity and size, and can only be used in small operations that don’t have large selections on tap. Bars with several beverages on tap use a Walk-in refrigerator, and then run the lines from the unit to the bar.
Wine Coolers
For bars that serve wine exclusively, or for bars that have a large selection of wine, consider a wine cooler. This equipment are designed to hold only wine, and can, therefore, allow you a maximum storage potential. They’re made to keep specific wines at certain temperatures, which may not match the temperatures held by the other refrigeration equipment.
If your wine cooler is placed under the counter, you can select a unit that holds the wine horizontally, as it is not necessary to display the wines to your customers. You may also adjust the shelves to hold the wine bottles horizontally to save some space. For coolers that are within the sight of the customers, adjust the shelves to allow for the display of the bottles vertically, and face the labels in front.
Decide on Your Finish
Once you have decided which types of equipment you need for your bar business, choose the finish that best suits your necessities. You can choose stainless steel or black vinyl. Stainless steel is the most durable material, which is less likely to dent or scratch than the black vinyl. The shiny exterior is great for well-lighted bars as this finish is great for display. However, these units are more expensive than the black vinyl. Although stainless steel is more durable, it still requires some maintenance. Be consistent with your choices for uniformity behind your bar.
