TIPS FOR COLD WEATHER GRILLING
Cold weather is now felt through the country however it should not be an excuse to show your love of outdoor grilling in storage ‘til Spring. If anything, cold weather grilling has created some of my greatest cooking memories, from low degree roasts on New Year’s Eve to shivering through the cold rain in order to cook up some rib-eyes for a dinner date. The secret is to understand the components and adjust your cooking as needed. Here’s some things you can do for cold weather grilling…
1. Clean the Grill
Commercial grills is typically made of stainless steel and is used extensively in restaurants. Because commercial grills are one of the most used pieces of commercial equipment they need to be cleaned frequently to increase their longevity, keep food tasting fresh and help meet sanitation standards.
2. Keeping temperature under control.
The biggest adjustment when cooking in cool weather is with the cooking period. Cooler air means it will take more time to get the grill to the proper temperature, so be prepared to add 20-30 minutes to each recipe your are cooking in a barbecue grill.
3. Close it up.
It will took additional time to heat the grill and that means it will also take extra time to warm it back up every time you open the lid to look inside. The purpose of which is not to let a lot of precious heat escape from the grill. The longer you refrain from looking, the shorter the wait will be for your hard earned meal. Also, a grill cover means you don’t have to remove dirt or frozen leaves.
4. Break the wind.
If it’s not the cold temperature that will get you, then it’s probably the wind chill. Put your grill next to a fence or wall or construct your own barricade out of spare plywood to lessen the impact of wind that normally send a chill through you and the the food you are cooking.
5. Warm Gloves.
Grilling is a hands-on method of cooking so keeping your fingers warm is necessary when the temperature begins to drop. Accessible at most hardware shop, nitrite-covered work gloves give warmth for cooler temperatures while still providing the flexibility to work your grill cooking.
6. Read Guides.
Read the manual guide about any specific instructions on how to clean your grill. Some other grills should not be cleaned with a grill brush or anything abrasive to protect its surface. Wipe the cleaned grill surface with a dry and absorbent cloth. Clean the controls and outer grill surfaces with mild cleaner or water with soap and wipe them clean.
